The main Causes of Stress, what are they?
    Sarah-Jane

There are lots of different factors that cause stress. Each individual deals with stress in many different ways. Stress is a normal part of living, and everyone faces it to a certain degree. Stress can be good or bad, desirable or undesirable.

Listing the causes of stress is tricky. There can be innumerable stress factors since different individuals react differently to the same stress conditions.

Extreme stress situations for an individual may prove to be mild for another, for yet another person the situations might not qualify as stress symptoms at all.

Causes such as a simple flight delay to managing a teenage child at home can put you under stress.

There are some situations or events that can cause us to be stressed. Once these are identified we can take steps to modify either the situation or the way that we view the situation. Stress can be both work or home related and is often a combination of the two.

In a working situation the following may well cause stress:

    • A lack of power or influence over one's working life
    • Excessive work pressure of caused by time constraints and/or complexity
    • Not knowing what is expected of you
    • Not knowing how your manager views your work
    • Bullying and other forms of harassment
    • Working anti-social hours
    • Periods of organisational change
    • Possible or actual redundancy
    • Promotion or the lack of it

In a home situation the following may also cause stress.

    • Bereavement
    • Family illness
    • Separation from a partner
    • Moving location
    • Children's behaviour or educational performance

Peoples lifestyles and how they cope with life situations.

How they PLAN for stressful situations.

If someone does not enjoy their job, can't relax, does not deal with stressful situations, does not plan stressful situations, and does not have friends or family to talk to, to discuss problems or stressful situations. This will all add to increased stress levels.
